New Jersey Paid Sick Leave Resources for Employers

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DLWD) has posted several resources for employers on its new paid sick leave webpage. New Jersey’s Earned Sick Leave (i.e., paid sick leave or PSL) law took effect on October 29, 2018.

Notice to Employees

The required notice for employees is now available on the DLWD’s website. It is available in English and several other languages. New employees must receive the notice when they begin employment. Existing employees must receive the notice by November 29, 2018.

Proposed Rules

The DLWD has also issued proposed rules to implement the PSL law. Written comments on the proposed rules may be submitted by December 14, 2018, to David.Fish@dol.nj.gov.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to FAQs are also available. The FAQs cover several topics, including: which employees are covered by the law, the right to PSL – including hours and accrual, the use of PSL, how PSL is paid, carryover and payout of PSL, other paid time off policies, federal and state laws related to leave time, retaliation, notice to employees, recordkeeping, and complaints.
