IRS Extends Deadlines to Give Employees ACA Forms

Written by PayrollOrg Staff | Dec 14, 2018 4:00:00 PM

The IRS has extended the due date for furnishing 2018 Forms 1095-B, Health Coverage, and 1095-C, Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage, to employees from January 31 to March 4 [IRS Notice 2018-94]. Because of this automatic extension, the IRS will not grant an additional extension to furnish these forms.

Filing Deadline Not Extended

The deadline to file these returns with the IRS remains February 28, if filing on paper, or April 1, if filing electronically.

The automatic extension of the filing deadline remains available. Employers and other coverage providers may file for an extension by submitting Form 8809, Application for Extension of Time to File Information Returns, before the due date.

Penalty relief extended

The IRS also extended to the 2018 tax year the good-faith transition relief from IRC §§6721 and 6722 penalties for failure to timely furnish and file the information returns.
