E-Verify Users Have Until June 30 to Increase Account Security

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that E‑Verify is implementing multifactor authentication through Login.gov to strengthen account security for users [E-Verify, E-Verify Enhances Account Security With Login.gov, 6-17-25].

USCIS said multifactor authentication adds an extra layer of security to the login process by requiring users to provide more than just a password. For example, users may be asked to enter a code sent to their email or mobile device in addition to their password, which will help prevent unauthorized access and better protect personal and organizational data.

Users who have not migrated by June 30 will be forced to migrate at their next login. USCIS said users should not wait until the deadline, which could delay access to E-Verify accounts.

What Users Should Do

To enable multifactor authentication, users must link their existing E‑Verify account to an account in Login.gov. Users can either create a Login.gov account or use an existing one.

Next, the user will log in to E-Verify and click the “Migrate Your Account” button on the pop-up banner and follow the guided steps. USCIS said account migration takes less than 10 minutes. After account migration, users will access E‑Verify accounts by logging in through the “Sign in with Login.gov” option on the E‑Verify sign-in page.
