The article, “Earned Wage Access and Child Support,” written by APA staff, is featured in the December 2022 edition of the Child Support Report, a monthly e‑newsletter published by the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE).
Recent studies have shown that almost one in five households report that expenses regularly exceed their income, and nearly 80% of workers live paycheck to paycheck. Earned wage access (EWA) is a tool that employees can use to help them better manage their finances.
When selecting a vendor, employers must ensure that employees’ child support withholding obligations are met and that the vendor has accepted responsibility for any shortfalls.
The article offers some pointers for employers considering an EWA benefit, including employee financial awareness such as whether employees know how to create a budget and their ability to engage with financial institutions.
