The article “Standardizing Employment Verification Responses to Efficiently Support Families,” written by APA staff is featured in the December edition of the Child Support Report, a monthly e‑newsletter published by the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE).
The APA and its partners, the National Council of Child Support Directors and OCSE, created a standardized response to verification of employment (VOE) requests from child support programs. The new standardized form was published in November.
The new form does not replace state requirements, but, when allowed by a state, can be used by employers for employment verification. All states and territories have agreed to accept the form as of December 17, 2021, except for New York where it is under review.
Ideally, employers will be able to load the form into their management systems and pull most of the information automatically. States that accept the standard VOE response form could request additional information in those cases that warrant it.
