Expanding your experience into global payroll operations doesn’t have to be feared. That’s the message delivered during the workshop “Standardizing Global Payroll While Meeting Local Country Requirements” at the APA’s 36th Annual Congress.

Presented by Robyn Maslouski, CPP, Director of HR Services at Cardinal Health, and Mashell Fuller, CPP, Payroll Tax Manager at NGA Human Resources, the workshop raised questions about having a global or local governance model when managing payroll for a global company.

Maslouski talked about different areas where companies may need to consider delivering localized services, including in a country with different regulations, when needing to comply with a control framework, when data has to be stored in a country’s local language, and when systems and technologies need to be local.

“Understanding key regulations around the globe will help you understand compliance,” Maslouski told Congress Today prior to the workshop. “With the right tools, it can be done successfully while realizing some personal and professional benefits at the same time.”

Although Maslouski said the workshop was technically for people who are part of a decentralized, multinational service delivery model, there were some good learning points for payroll professionals who are currently working in the United States.

“I hope this workshop provokes thoughts that the attendee can consider in designing his or her organization and service model,” Maslouski said. “This includes technologies, language, time zones, and employment law.”
