Two States and Puerto Rico Extend Forms W-2 Electronic Filing Deadline

Iowa and Puerto Rico have extended the electronic filing deadline for Forms W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, to February 28, 2019, for technical reasons. Due to extreme weather, Wisconsin has extended its electronic filing deadline for Forms W-2 to February 4, 2019. The original electronic filing deadline for these states/territory was January 31, 2019.

Iowa’s Technical Problems

Due to technical problems with Iowa’s eFile and Pay, the Iowa Department of Revenue has extended the electronic filing deadline to February 28, 2019, from January 31, 2019. The department is working with its vendor to resolve the problems as quickly as possible.

Puerto Rico’s New SURI System

Due to the transition to the new online Unified Internal Revenue System (called SURI), the deadline to electronically file Forms 499 R-3, Reconciliation Statement of Income Tax Withheld, and Forms W-2 with the Department of Treasury is extended to February 28, 2019, from January 31, 2019 [DOT, Information Bulletin 19-02, 1-29-19].

Wisconsin’s Severe Weather

The deadline to submit Forms W-2 to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue has been automatically extended to February 4, 2019, from January 31, 2019. The extension is because of extreme winter weather conditions in the state. State agencies in Wisconsin were closed for public business on January 30 and the U.S. Postal Service is experiencing service disruptions throughout the state.
