Same-Day ACH Limit to Increase to $10 Million in September 2027

Nacha has announced that its same-day automated clearinghouse (ACH) per payment limit will increase from $1 million to $10 million, effective September 17, 2027. Nacha anticipates the new $10 million cap will enhance same-day ACH use cases for payroll funding, invoice and tax payments, insurance claim payments, merchant settlement, and cash concentration.

PayrollOrg Supported Increase

In December 2025, PayrollOrg’s Government Relations Task Force Electronic Payments Subcommittee sent a letter in support of Nacha’s proposed rule to increase the per-transaction, same-day dollar limit.

“While payroll processing does not often have a need to process large sums of money through same-day transactions, knowing that the option is available reassures employers that they can comply with wage and hour laws and regulations,” PayrollOrg said.

Employers may need large fund transfers through same-day ACH payments during transitions to new payroll management systems, when outsourcing to a new payroll service provider, when outsourcing payroll management for the first time, and when employers are in the process of a merger or acquisition.
