Register: Conference Features Interactive Education for Next-Gen Payroll Pros

Curious about what the next generation of payroll leaders looks like? The APA’s 2nd Annual Payroll Leaders Conference (PLC) offers payroll professionals the opportunity to experience four new transformational certificate programs aimed to optimize their skills and education in payroll-related issues.

The conference, which takes place at the Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West outside Phoenix, Arizona, November 4-6, will also host the annual Prism Awards that recognizes payroll and shared services departments exhibiting best practices in technology, management, and more.

New Certificate Programs

Attendees can choose to take one of four new certificate programs to further their education and training. The programs are Payroll OMG, Managing Vendor Partnerships, Advanced Payroll Concepts, and Advanced Global Payroll Management. Let’s look at each of these programs in some more detail:

1. Payroll OMG—The Payroll Optimization, Management, and Growth (OMG) program can help payroll pros reduce expenses by looking at all processes and how departments are interconnected. Payroll OMG helps professionals at every level in every department understand how to produce the perfect paycheck. This program also covers how to reduce cost, eliminate waste, and create a highly effective workforce.
2. Managing Vendor Partnerships—Foster long-term partnerships with vendors using the knowledge learned from this program. Attendees will delve into in-depth discussions on building the proper team, relationship management, and contract negotiation. Attendees also will be able to identify the goals of a relationship between vendor and organization, understand the requirements and contingencies of implementation, establish ongoing management reports, and more.
3. Advanced Payroll Concepts—This certificate program will show attendees how to navigate white collar exemption rules, complex benefit issues, and payroll systems alongside leadership concepts. Attendees will learn more about FLSA employee classification, fringe benefit taxation and its reporting requirements, and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) time-off management from the payroll perspective.
4. Advanced Global Payroll Management—Global and domestic payroll professionals can take away comprehensive approaches to the global payroll delivery model. The program will give attendees the tools and knowledge to be global payroll leaders, including how to develop and nurture diverse, remote global payroll teams, establish business partnerships, and formulate global strategies and governance models to drive standardized processes.

Attendees can earn up to 15 RCHs, 1.5 CEUs, or 15 CPE credits, with no prerequisites or advance preparation required.

Prism Award Recognition

The annual Prism Awards are presented by the APA’s Strategic Payroll Leadership Task Force (SPLTF) to innovative payroll and shared services departments recognized for their achievements in improved business practices, shared services, and overall processes. Departments are awarded in four categories: Technology, Management, Processes, and Overall Best Practices. The Shared Services Prism Award, selected by the Shared Services Task Force, will be given to an organization that has demonstrated excellence in shared services.

The Prism Awards will be presented during the Awards Luncheon Tuesday, November 5.
