In New York, non-emergency (non-COVID-19-related) paid sick leave requirements will go into effect on September 30, 2020, with use of accrued sick leave by employees to begin January 1, 2021 [S.B. 7506B, L. 2020].
Accrual Method
Beginning on September 30, 2020, employees will accrue sick leave at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked. For employees hired after that date, accrual begins on their first day of work. Employees can begin using accrued sick leave on January 1, 2021.
