Missouri Repeals Paid Sick Leave, Minimum Wage Increases for Inflation

The governor of Missouri signed legislation that repeals the state’s paid sick leave (PSL) law, effective August 28, 2025, and also repeals future minimum wage increases for inflation [H.B. 567, L. 2025].

Paid Sick Leave Mandate Ends Next Month

The PSL law was passed by voters last year and took effect on May 1, 2025. Effective August 28, 2025, the PSL law is repealed. Employers are required to provide employees with one hour of PSL for every 30 hours worked until August 28.

The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations updated its PSL FAQs to explain that employers may continue to offer PSL after August 28, 2025—but will no longer be required to provide PSL.

Changes to Minimum Wage Increases

Last year, voters approved Proposition A, increasing the minimum wage and indexing it annually for inflation. Under the new law, the minimum wage will still increase to $15 per hour on January 1, 2026 (currently, $13.75 per hour). However, the minimum wage will not be adjusted annually for inflation every January 1.
