Federal Payroll Compliance Issues Featured at Congress Xstream

Congress Xstream, June 2-5, will provide attendees with the information they need to stay in compliance with new and existing federal payroll laws and regulations. Without a doubt, 2020 has presented challenges for payroll. In addition to anticipated changes, such as the completely revamped 2020 Form W-4, there have been unprecedented issues due to COVID-19. There are 28 educational sessions to choose from over four days at Congress Xstream (available on demand until September 5). Here are some focusing on federal payroll compliance issues.

Tuesday, June 2

The educational session, Payroll Changes in 2020 and Beyond, will provide an overview of some of the major federal payroll compliance issues facing payroll in 2020.

A special one-hour presentation will feature IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig and IRS Deputy Commissioner Sunita Lough. In Learning From the Top, they will explain how the IRS is implementing COVID-19 financial relief measures and ways the IRS is improving taxpayer services.

Wednesday, June 3

For those wondering whether they are in compliance with federal labor laws, the session, DOL Investigations: How Would You Stack Up?, will provide an overview of what the U.S. Department of Labor looks for when it investigates potential violations.

Thursday, June 4

A highlight of the Annual Congress is always the Forum on Federal Payroll Issues. Representatives from government agencies IRS, DOL, SSA, USCIS, and OCSE will answer perplexing questions submitted by APA members about tricky payroll situations.

Because labor regulations are an area where it seems there are always new compliance issues, Congress Xstream will feature a separate session focusing on labor laws, Wage and Hour – Changing the Rules of the Game.

Friday June 5

For anyone who wants to learn more about the 2020 Form W-4 and the withholding procedures in new IRS Publication 15-T, the session, Federal and State Tax Calculations With the 2020 W-4 Form, is a must. Taught be seasoned payroll professionals, this session will explain why the major changes to the form were necessary and demystify the calculations through examples.
