Find your seats, payroll students! The APA’s Educational Institutions Payroll Conference (EIPC) is back in session, complete with a new curriculum. The conference, which will focus on compliance and operational issues impacting payroll professionals in higher education workplaces, takes place October 23-26, 2022, at APA’s MEET Las Vegas. Among the topics to be addressed include best practices, taxation of faculty, employment eligibility, and more.
What You Will Take Away
The EIPC workshops are specifically tailored for payroll and tax professionals of all experience levels who are employed by public or private colleges and universities across the globe. This year’s conference curriculum will include workshops that will focus on the following objectives:
- Identifying nonresident alien student and faculty reporting requirements
- Understanding how process improvements can enhance attendees’ payroll operations
- Interpreting the IRS’s requirements for unique fringe benefits provided by colleges and universities
- Being better prepared for continuous changes through business continuity, time management, and communications

A Plethora of Educational Workshops
Payroll professionals attending EIPC can have access to nine exclusive, live workshop sessions, for a total of 25 workshops, addressing a range of higher-education-related topics and training over four days. Some of these workshops include the following:
- “Ensuring Compliance in a Multi-State Environment,” presented by Luanne Brown, CPP, and Jeffrey Jacob, CPA, CPP
- “Intelligent Automation in Higher Ed Institutions,” presented by Matthew Busanic and Dimitris Papageorgiou
- “Termination and Severance Pay,” presented by Luanne Brown, CPP, and Daniel Dycus, CPP
- “Paying Employees Working Globally,” presented by Glenna Bennett, CPP, and Nancy Hinchcliff, CPA
“This was my first time attending and the knowledge I gained was enormous,” said James Eldridge, FPC, Payroll Supervisor at Herzing University. “From workshops to networking, this surpassed my expectations, and I came back to the office with valuable tools and an invigorated mindset!”
Attendees can earn up to 17.5 RCHs, 1.75 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), or 17.5 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.
