The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed lawsuits against 15 employers alleging that the companies failed to comply with the mandatory federal reporting requirements to submit Employer Information Report (EEO-1) Component 1 data [EEOC, EEOC Sues 15 Employers for Failing to File Required Workforce Demographic Reports, 5-29-24].
The EEOC said it sued these “employers for repeatedly failing to submit mandatory EEO-1 Component 1 data reports in prior years, including for reporting years 2021 and 2022.”
Employers with 100 or more employees and federal contractors with 50 or more employees are required to file an EEO-1 with the EEOC, which includes information on race, ethnicity, and gender by job category. Employers count employees for purposes of this EEO-1 report during a “workforce snapshot period” between October 1 and December 31. The EEOC uses this workforce demographic data for many purposes, including enforcement, analytics and research, and employer self-assessment.
2023 EEO-1 Data Collection Due by June 4
Employers that are required to submit their 2023 EEO-1 Component 1 data collection must do so by June 4. The EEOC’s filer help desk is available to assist filers. The 2023 instruction booklet and file upload specifications are also available.
