“How Extra Paydays Affect Child Support Withholding,” written by APA member Michael Bateman, CPP, Payroll Manager for Vail Resorts, appears in the “Employer Corner” column of the April-May Child Support Report, a monthly e-newsletter published by the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement. Bateman wrote the article as a member of APA’s Government Relations Task Force (GRTF) Child Support and Other Garnishments Subcommittee.
Employees are far more likely to experience an extra payday in 2020 than in other years, Bateman says. “Special wage garnishments that are based on 26/52 payroll periods, such as child support payments, can be especially challenging as those orders come from different agencies in various states, and the language used is not uniform.”
