Workshop Focuses on State Paid Sick Leave Mandates
More than ever, state and local governments are now requiring what was once a nice perk for employees—paid sick leave. To help payroll professionals keep up with it all, industry and APA experts will lead the workshop “Paid Sick Leave: From Perk to Mandate” on Thursday.
Beth Baerman, Communications Director for Attendance on Demand, Inc.; Lia Coniglio, Esq., Manager of State Payroll Information Resources for the APA; and Laura Lough, Esq., Director of Publications for the APA, will help attendees understand key obligations of paid sick leave legislation mandates, including accrual, usage, and carryover rules, pay rate calculations, and recordkeeping requirements.
“Since there is no federal legislation covering this area, states and cities are very active, so state and local paid sick leave requirements are always evolving,” said Coniglio, who is also Managing Editor of PayState Update.
She said attendees will come away from the workshop “knowing the requirements, where to look for information, and how to track new proposals, so attendees can help their organizations stay in compliance.”
The workshop will take place during Session 9 from 2:15-3:45 p.m. in Grand Ballroom #2.
