Workshop Explores Human Element of Change Management

Change management is about more than a new system, new processes, or a reorganization. It entails a psychological element that cannot be overlooked.

In the Thursday workshop “The Psychology of Change Management: More Than Simply Communicating the Change,” Stephanie Salavejus, CPP, and Joe Ziska will lead attendees through the skills needed to navigate change in the workplace.

“Professional growth requires us to accept and embrace change,” said Salavejus, Chief Operating Officer for PenSoft and an APA Vice President. “It is extremely hard to advance on the corporate ladder without strong change management skills. Unfortunately, these skills are rarely part of our formal training, whether it be through an educational institution or on-the-job training.”

Ziska, BMW Manufacturing’s Section Manager Compensation and Organizational Management, said that although the need for change management skills has always been present, technology is adding speed to the process.

“Understanding how humans approach and respond to change initiatives allows us to influence others more effectively,” he said. “I hope attendees take back a clear understanding of how people respond to changes and some actionable ideas to ensure their projects will be more effective.”

The workshop will take place during Session 10 from 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. on Thursday in Room 101 AB.
