Role Of Strategic Globalization Highlights Human-AI Relationship
Payroll Congress attendees who were present at the workshop session, “The Role of AI in Strategic Globalization: Leveraging Tech to Advance Your Payroll Org,” presented by Davida Lara, CPP, witnessed an amazing presentation that kept the audience engaged and actively involved.
Drawing on a payroll career that began in the music industry in the 1990s, spanning new technology, new teams and new challenges, Lara reminded us that AI is not a disruption, but an elevation--a tool that strengthens payroll’s growing strategic role across the business.
“Payroll is sexy because what we do is the lifeblood of the world,” Lara told her audience.
At the heart of the session was the idea of the emerging partnership between human workers and artificial intelligence (AI) processes.
AI technology can process vast data sets, detect anomalies, monitor global compliance changes and accelerate decision-making at incredible speed.
However, payroll expertise from the human perspective remains irreplaceable and necessary asset in the global and domestic payroll space.
Humans frame the problems, interpret the outputs and ensure quality application. Lara’s detailed explanation of the human-AI collaboration drew the audience directly into her discussion as she asked attendees if any of them follow AI outputs without validating them first.

Workshop attendees—according to Lara’s informal poll—understand that validating AI outputs eliminates the occurrence of errors.
Payroll professionals understand that accuracy, accountability and trust still matter - and that human touch is still all-important.
The session also reinforced payroll’s role as the organisation’s “source of truth.”
Through integrated systems, real-time insights and AI-enabled forecasting, payroll leaders are increasingly helping shape enterprise-wide strategy, compliance and financial decision-making.
The overarching message was powerful: AI does not diminish the value of payroll professionals - it amplifies it.
The future of payroll belongs to teams willing to embrace technology, strengthen data literacy and lead strategically across the organisation.
