Onboarding Checklist Fidelity BlogFirst impressions are everything. That’s why as an employer, you want the onboarding process at your company to go as smoothly as possible. Here’s our checklist of key things to consider:

  • The basics. Fill your new hires in on things like when they get paid, how to complete their time cards (if applicable), and where the supply closet is.
  • The legal stuff. Many companies require new hires to fill out forms acknowledging things such as official company policies. Ensure that there’s plenty of time built in to the onboarding process for your new hires to learn and ask questions about what they’re signing.
  • The benefits. Make sure that during your onboarding process, employees are educated around what health and financial benefits the company offers— 401(k), medical insurance, life insurance, and more—and when they have to enroll by. And make sure they have access to the resources they need to understand their benefits year-round.
  • The evaluations. Get everyone on the same page by setting expectations for new employees, and fill them in on when performance evaluations happen, if they are part of your company’s practices.
  • The managers can help by filling in new hires on formal and informal policies and practices—observed holidays, how to request time off, the dress code, or even just where everyone likes to eat lunch.
