Carolyn Huse, CPP, was crowned Payroll Woman of the Year, and Gary Lynch, CPP, took the title of Payroll Man of the Year Tuesday during the Opening General Session of Congress.

Huse, Payroll Director for Critical Healthcare Management in the Dallas area, has a long and distinguished list of service to the American Payroll Association (APA) since she joined the organization in 1990.

“Way back when, Dan [Maddux] gave me the encouragement that I needed to volunteer with APA,” Huse said. “I would encourage all of you to get in involved with the APA and your local chapter. You can make a difference. You could be standing up here.”

Her volunteer service includes CHAMPS mentor, Hotline Referral Service, Chapter Recognition Committee, Certification Board, Certification Item Development Task Force, and Shared Services Task Force.

She has been a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) since 1991. She received the APA’s education grant in 2003, the Meritorious Service Award in 2004, and the Special Recognition Award in 2013.

Lynch, a Payroll Consultant in the Philadelphia area, has been a stalwart on the APA’s Certification Board, serving there for eight years. His volunteer service to the APA also includes the Certification Item Development Task Force and National Speakers Bureau.

“This is such a humbling experience,” he said. “People are the reason I am here. I thank all the teams that I’ve been able to support and the committees that I’ve served on through the APA.”

Lynch joined the APA in 1996 and became a CPP in 1998. He received the APA’s Special Recognition Award during last year’s Annual Congress.
