DT1_7599The American Payroll Association’s (APA) 36th Annual Congress hosted the Leadership Excellence Series, a new series of intensive workshops that share the latest research and innovative strategies regarding how winning cultures are created and how they lead to significant benefits to the employer, the employee, and the bottom line.

The series consisted of two double workshop sessions this week that covered a range of topics including identifying the top 10 key strategies that successful leaders implement, how to navigate a complex marketplace, and managing major life disruptions. Congress attendees who participated in both sessions received a certificate of completion.

"It was one of the best experiences I've ever had," said Rachel Schubert, CPP, from Lam Research. "The presenter was amazing." 

Shirley Davis, Ph.D., SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CSP, a global workforce expert and international keynote speaker, led the series, which aimed to cultivate behaviors for future leaders.

Davis has led past Congress workshops such as 2017’s “Women in Leadership Series,” a four-session professional workshop for women in leadership roles. In this year’s workshop, Davis also discussed diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence in order to help attendees become aware of their own conscious and unconscious biases.

"The whole experience has been great," said Michelle Clawson, CPP, Global Payroll Manager at Driscoll's Inc. "I especially appreciated being given permission to think about my strengths and my weaknesses; it's OK to have the latter."
