OK, we all know what a current time clock looks like and what it does.

Now, imagine if technology could do anything and everything, and there were no boundaries or limits. How would you like to handle what you think of today as time entry and labor data collection for your workforce?

Let your mind run wild. Perhaps time clocks are no longer needed. Automation could “sense” your workforce without the need to interact with a “device.”

Go beyond and think “people analytics.”

What kind of data/information would you like to collect and measure?

Although we interact with the technology around us via touch and typing, imagine using your voice to interact. Imagine a speech-recognition tool on steroids.

Do you believe it would be beneficial or applicable to exempt employees?  Remember, we are thinking about the future here, so do not restrict your thoughts to just hourly employees.

Think about how it applies to your specific industry.

What is needed in health care is very different from what is needed in retail. What is needed in manufacturing is very different from what is needed in a nuclear power plant.

Let your mind run wild. What do you believe would work? What would not work?

Hint: Remember, most employees don’t like the idea of “Big Brother—their boss is watching.”
