Grant Recipients Receive a Wealth of Education
The American Payroll Association (APA) and Wisely Pay by ADP teamed up to offer deserving payroll professionals APA education at no cost.
Susan Noyes, CPP, and Lucia Watson, CPP, are this year’s big education grant recipients, which were announced Wednesday, June 3, during Congress Xstream.
Noyes received this year’s Complete APA Payroll Training Package Education Grant, and Watson received the Wisely Pay by ADP Payroll Education Grant.
“This is like winning the payroll lottery for me, and I’m going to take full advantage and take every course I possibly can,” Noyes said.
The Payroll Manager for J. Jill received registration for next year’s Annual Congress and will receive registration for any or all APA seminars for one year, including courses at the Payroll Learning Centers in San Antonio or Las Vegas. She will also receive a complete library of APA publications for one year, plus PayTrain®.
Noyes earned her Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation in 2006 and became an APA member in 2010. She is a member of the following APA committees: Hotline Referral Service, CHAMPS Committee, Chapter Recognition Committee, Social Networking Committee, and the Retail Best Practices Subcommittee of the Strategic Payroll Leadership Task Force (SPLTF).
She has also served as Webmaster of the Northern New England Chapter.
“Thank you to the APA and to ADP for providing these grants to the payroll community,” she said. "There are so many deserving payroll professionals out there, I am honored to have been chosen.”
Watson, Consultant for LMW Consulting, receives the same package courtesy of the sponsorship of Wisely Pay by ADP and is attending Congress Xstream with the grant.
"I decided to apply for the grant so that I could defray the cost of attending Congress," she said. "Networking with payroll/HR professionals and learning new things are always at the top of my list, and Congress is just the place to do that."
She has been a CPP since 1996 and an APA member since 2000.
She has served the East Bay Chapter as Chapter Advisor, Government Liaison, Secretary, and President.
"The education grant will help to enhance my knowledge so that I am able to continue my work to help advance the payroll profession by sharing information with current and emerging payroll professionals,” Watson said.
Now in their 30th year, the payroll education grants were established to assist the educational and professional growth of all payroll professionals.
The APA Education Grant Committee chose eight worthy grant recipients from an impressive group of 42 applicants.
Three individuals also received the APA’s Payroll Source Plus Grant, which awards a free year-long subscription to the APA’s Payroll Source Plus. Those recipients are the following:
- Catherine Gray, CPP, Payroll Manager at Rea & Associates, Inc.
- Kaila Raap, General Accounting Manager at New Holland Brewing Company
- Kathleen A. Wilson, CMA, CPP, Practice Manager, Parkside Family Counseling
The following two members received a free registration to the APA course or conference of their choice:
- Michelle Hanneman, CPP, Director of Finance, Premier Bone & Joint
- Carl Horstkamp, CPP, HR Solutions Payroll Partner, Ingersoll Rand
Wisely Pay by ADP’s Payroll Publication Grant goes to:
- Amy Jones, CPP, Payroll Tax Manager for IEA Management Services
Karen Settembrino, CPP, told Congress Xstream attendees, "As the Education Grant Committee chair, it was a fantastic opportunity to award deserving recipients."
Sally Hilton, CPP, APA Director of Payroll Training, chimed in, "Congratulations to all education grant winners. Never stop learning!"
