Beware of Fraudulent Payroll Congress Attendee List Offers
PayrollOrg has received reports that attendees are receiving emails from individuals offering to sell the 42nd Annual Payroll Congress and Expo attendee list. This is a scam that PayrollOrg has seen with increasing frequency over the past few years. Be advised that these list brokers do not have the Payroll Congress attendee list. PayrollOrg does not make its attendee list available for purchase to organizations other than confirmed event sponsors and exhibitors.
If you receive one of these fraudulent messages, do not reply to the sender or click on any of the links. Instead, take the following actions:
- Follow your organization’s procedures for reporting spam messages.
- Forward the message to legal@payroll.org.
- PayrollOrg will send a cease and desist letter to the senders.
- If you receive additional messages, forward them to legal@payroll.org as well.
- PayrollOrg may take additional actions, such as reporting the email messages to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
For tips on how to deal with fraudulent email messages, see PayrollOrg’s Stop Fraud webpage. The link for View Fraudulent Email Sample #2 is a recent example of the fraudulent attendee list message.
