APA Board Honors Chapman’s Legacy of Leadership
Irene Chapman, CPP, received the Board of Directors Award on Tuesday, June 2, during Congress Xstream in recognition of her longtime APA leadership.
“I’ve been honored to serve the APA for all these many years,” Chapman said in accepting the award.
She noted that her time with the APA is akin to the early days of Disneyland when E tickets were coveted because they allowed entry to the park’s most popular attractions.
“You wanted the letter E on your ticket because it was the most exhilarating, rewarding, and satisfying,” Chapman said. “That’s what my journey with APA has been. It’s been an E ticket ride the whole way.”
Chapman served as Vice President and as a Director before becoming APA President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. She continued serving as Secretary and Treasurer. Her final term as Secretary concluded at the APA’s Annual Business Meeting in May.
Chapman was an early adopter of payroll certification, earning her Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation in 1986, and she has taught nearly every class the APA offers during her 18 years on the National Speakers Bureau.
In her acceptance speech, she encouraged her fellow members to start their own “E ticket rides” with APA by getting involved, and she thanked APA staff, board members, and Executive Director Dan Maddux for their faith in her.
She will continue to serve the Association as an Ambassador.
