Transfer of Leadership to New Leader

blogs.americanpayroll.orghubfschapter-blog-images7.6.22_ChapterUserGuideIt is that time of the year, time for the new Chapter board to be trained and take over the leadership of the Chapter. You have worked really hard making sure the Chapter has succeeded this year and are a little nervous with handing over the reins. Here are a few tips and tricks to make this transition easier and seamless for the Chapter.

Share with the new leadership team all of the resources available to Chapters from PayrollOrg.

Resources available to chapters on the “Grow Your Chapter” webpage include but are not limited to:

  • New Chapter Officer Guide
A guide to help officers and chapters transition responsibilities to newly-elected chapter officers.
  • Local Chapter Guide
A comprehensive guide on starting and maintaining a PayrollOrg Local Chapter with information on chapter bylaws, budgetary and financial concerns, event guidelines, and more. Chapter officers should review key sections of the guide annually.
  • Chapter Marketing Guidelines
Guidelines on appropriate usage of the PAYO logo and chapter promotion of PayrollOrg.
  • Chapter Study Group Guide
A guide on organizing a successful CPP/FPC study group.
  • Chapter RCH Guide
A guide on applying for RCH approval as a chapter.
  • Request a Local Mailing List
If your chapter would like to send its membership benefits or events to local PayrollOrg members, fill out this form for a one-use mailing list. Chapters may request up to two local mailing lists per year.
  • Apply for Chapter Reaffiliation
Chapters must apply for reaffiliation annually to update PayrollOrg on their officers and reaffirm their compliance to PayrollOrg guidelines.

casual-meeting-setupSchedule a kick-off board meeting with the current and future board meetings. If someone cannot attend, make sure they connect to talk about role transition. Plan your agenda for the Board Meeting. Three main goals of the Board meeting should be:

  • Schedule of Chapter meetings for the year and who will be in charge of coordinating them
  • Budget for the next year
  • Review of Chapter by-laws for questions or changes

Depending on when your kick off meeting is being held, you might also be discussing NPW activities or Chapter of the Year activities/submission.

A few things you want to make sure you discuss with the new Board:

  • Chapter recertification that happens every year
  • Required Tax filings to ensure you do not lose tax status
  • How to submit for RCH’s for each meeting
  • Change the names on the bank account
  • Submitting Study Group paperwork
