The Chicago Chapter, for the second year in row, took first place in the 2021 NPW Local Government Outreach contest category. Let’s dive into the work they did to achieve this accomplishment.
Q: What was your chapter’s strategy for requesting proclamations?
A: Proclamations are requested by our Government Liaison. We start by reviewing if the mayor or village president has changed in the last year so, we have updated information. From there, we keep a spreadsheet and track the cities/villages that respond, whether it is to issue a proclamation, or not. We also follow up with a thank you emails once we receive the proclamation and always thank them for their continued support.
Q: Did your chapter receive any proclamations in person?
A: Yes, our chapter president, education director, and government liaison accepted the proclamation from Westmont in person at a village meeting. It was an unbelievable experience, especially because during this meeting they were honoring fire and police members. This village goes above and beyond every year, and truly appreciates the payroll profession.
In total, the Chicago Chapter requested 208 proclamations and received 43. That is a 21% success rate. Hip, hip, hooray Chicago Chapter!
