The Biggest Takeaways from My First Annual Congress

This year marks my 20th year as a CPP.  I have been in the PEO industry for nearly 25 years so my conference experiences are usually confined to that industry.  At the last minute I decided to treat myself to my very first Annual Congress from the APA since Orlando is not that far for me. The APA’s Annual Congress was top notch and is now high on the list of all the other conferences I have been to.  It was amazing to see so many sessions going on at once, and it was all so well-orchestrated.

Congress was a great reminder of “how much is out there” with regards to payroll.  The payroll career is often underestimated and underappreciated. Congress was a real eye-opener of the vastness of the payroll field and a reminder of the link to human resources. It reminded me of the way human resources should engage WITH payroll. It was awesome to be around so many individuals who have bridged the gap by becoming certified in both HR and payroll.   Not only did I learn a lot of specifics, but I also walked away with increased confidence in what I do from a payroll and HR consulting arena.

Prior to attending Congress, I was struggling trying to keep our local chapter going but I received so much encouragement through Congress and from the other attendees.  It was the motivational nudge I needed and I can’t thank all of those who offered words of wisdom enough.  Cheers to all of YOU who do what you do!  I thank and appreciate you!  The payroll career is definitely something to be proud of!
