The Atlanta Chapter took home 1st place for the Local Media Outreach category in the 2021 National Payroll Week chapter contests. We are sharing what they did to spread the word and raise awareness to achieve this honor.
Q: Tell us about your goal(s) for the campaign. Were these goals met?
A: For 2021, the goal was to use our social media channels to promote and to make Chapter members and the public aware of National Payroll Week by giving examples of how to celebrate the week. Our aim was to post every week or two before NPW with our first post happening in May. Then, for the week of NPW, we aimed to post daily on all our social media channels. We wanted to see interaction from our followers and the participation in our local chapter contests, as well as our celebration meetings.
These goals were met by contest entries received from our chapter members as well as the attendance at the August and September chapter meetings.
We felt the responses we received on social media and retweets and action from our Chapter members made for a successful campaign. We wanted to establish a more formalized approach to show how important that week is to the payroll community and, in turn, raise the awareness of the Atlanta area to National Payroll Week. We felt that we did it!
Q: Share with us some of the promotions you utilized.
A: We used emails to members, social account postings, and Zoom meetings to promote National Payroll Week. Our activities in the Atlanta area included Money Matter presentations and posts suggesting ways to celebrate NPW. And, we posted quotes, links, photos, etc. on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & LinkedIn to share how the Atlanta Chapter was celebrating National Payroll Week.
We also utilized some of our charitable events like the collection of items for donation, to raise awareness to the public not just of the charities we support but, also of Payroll Professionals. For chapter events, we had fun with creating a scavenger hunt and a riddle game revolving around NPW.
Q: Describe how the media campaign was planned.
A: Our President, Ansleigh Smith, CPP, planned most of our promotions utilizing the power of social media and our chapter website with bi-weekly and weekly posts or updates leading up to NPW. Then, once NPW began, we did daily posts and updates. Chapter members then retweeted or shared on their accounts.
We want to see more chapters enter the NPW contests and hope this gives you and your chapter ideas and inspiration. Please share with us below, other tactics you might use to increase local awareness.
