Happy National Payroll Week! The best week of the year celebrates America’s employees and the payroll professionals who pay them. Today we’re recognizing Money Matters National Education Day (MMNED). During Money Matters National Education Day, hundreds of payroll pros from across the country join the fight against financial illiteracy by teaching their area teens important paycheck basics. We’ve put together some helpful things to consider when volunteering for MMNED:
- Volunteering to teach is as easy as completing the official volunteer form. You will be emailed all of the MMNED teaching materials once you complete the form.
- Although MMNED is recognized on the Thursday of each annual NPW, the lesson plan can be taught year round! Don’t limit yourself to only teaching during NPW. There is still plenty of time to sign up and receive credit for 2017.
- All volunteers who teach a MMNED lesson earn 1 RCH. In addition, chapter members that volunteer will be eligible for the National Education Champion Regional Contest.

- Volunteers can present MMNED lessons to local schools, public businesses, after-school youth organizations, church groups, local Boy Scout troops, and more. Click here to watch a brief video on joining the fight against financial illiteracy.
- You can teach your MMNED lesson individually or as a team with your payroll pals. It is up to you to determine how you feel most comfortable presenting
- The APA teamed up with the Council for Economic Education to create the official MMNED ‘Bring Home the Gold’ lesson plan. This lesson is designed for students new to the workforce and teaches the basic elements of how to read and calculate a paycheck.
Money Matters National Education Day is used to help tomorrow’s employees understand the inner workings of their paycheck. It might also inspire others to begin a career in payroll!
