Tim Walstrum, CPP, is the American Payroll Association’s Region 9 Board of Advisor. He serves as the liaison between APA and local chapters in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Learn more about Tim with this exclusive Q&A session!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I was born, raised, and still live in the suburbs of Baltimore. My husband and I will celebrate 32 years together in January. We love camping and I enjoy bowling both ten pins and duckpins (you will have to Google it unless you live in the Northeast).
How long have you been involved with APA and local chapters?
I became an APA member in 2001 and I joined the Board of Directors of the Charm City Payroll Association in 2002. I have served as Government Liaison Officer, Director of Education, Vice President, and President. At the National level, I serve on the Social Networking Committee, Electronic Payments Committee and the Child Support and Garnishment subcommittee of the GRTF. I was named APA’s Payroll Man of the Year in 2015.
What goal would you like to achieve as a Regional Advisor?
My goal is to be a resource for all my chapters, whether it be an issue that they or facing as a chapter or just to be a sounding board for them. I know from serving 18 years on my chapter’s board that, while very rewarding, it can be challenging. I would love to see our chapters talking to each other more. I find that I have gotten some of my best ideas from networking with members from other chapters.
