Lori Brown, CPP, is the APA’s Region 8 Board of Advisor. She serves as the liaison between APA and local chapters in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Learn more about Lori with this exclusive Q&A session!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a payroll professional with over 25 years of experience. I currently oversee payroll operations for Hanger, Inc as the Finance Director. I enjoy sharing my experiences and knowledge with other payroll professionals, as well as learning from them. Through my passion for payroll, I found that I really enjoy teaching, training, and speaking, all of which the APA has provided me many opportunities to do. I recently relocated to Austin, Texas from the DC metropolitan area.
How long have you been involved with APA and local chapters?
I joined the Washington Metro Area Chapter of the APA in 2000 and continued my membership through 2018 when I relocated to Austin, Texas. I held various positions throughout my tenure: Education Chair, NPW Chair, Nominations and Elections Chair, Treasurer and President. I just recently became a member of the CenTex Chapter and am anxious to meet everyone.
I joined the APA as a national member in 2002. I’ve participated with the following committees: Hotline, Education Advisory, Certification, Item Writing, National Speakers Bureau, and Nominations and Elections.
What goal would you like to achieve as a Regional Advisor?
I aspire to listen to chapter leaders and identify how the APA can make changes that will have a positive impact on its members. I got some good ideas at Congress this year when I attended the Chapter Exchange and am happy to report that one of those ideas will be presented during the APA’s Summer Board Meeting at the end of July.
What advice would you like to give to the chapters in your region?
Get creative! Be inspired by other chapters. Don’t be afraid to make changes. Subscribe to the Chapter Leaders Blog to spark some ideas or share your success stories.
