Meet Region 7 Board of Advisor: Timothy Cochran, CPP

Timothy Cochran, CPP, is the American Payroll Association’s Region 7 Board of Advisor. He serves as the liaison between APA and local chapters in the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Learn more about Tim with our exclusive Q&A session!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am from North Carolina and have been in payroll since 1999. Most of that time has been in the time and attendance area. I also spent several years in payroll processing and payroll tax, and I currently work as a Payroll Technical Analyst.

In my spare time, I play keyboard and sing at my church and spend time with my family. I am active in our community in our Pop Warner football program. I also volunteer each October for the American Cancer Society’s “Real Men Wear Pink” breast cancer campaign.

How long have you been involved with APA and local chapters?Tim

At the local level, I joined the local Charlotte Chapter in 1999. I have served in multiple leadership roles throughout the years, including Secretary, Vice President, and President (which I currently hold).

On the national level, I have been involved in CHAMPS and the Hotline Referral Service, and I received the National Meritorious Service award in 2011. I also won one of the National Education Grants in 2015.

I am a speaker for both local chapter and statewide events. In the future, I hope to join the APA’s National Speakers Bureau.

I am also on the Carolinas Payroll Conference statewide board where I serve as the Speaker and Vendor Liaison.

What is the best advice you would like to give to the chapters in your region?

Always try your best. No matter the size of your chapter, put your best foot forward and work TOGETHER.

What are some chapter issues you have helped resolve?

I truly enjoy being a leader and mentoring others. I was able to mentor a group of people on how to become a chapter. It was a great experience to help others form a new chapter based on my leadership experience in my local chapter.

What do you enjoy most about being a Regional Advisor?

I have enjoyed getting to know the leaders and members of the chapters in my region. I was able to speak at one of my region’s statewide events and attend another during this past year. I hope I have been able to share some of the knowledge I have had the pleasure of receiving during my years in the APA. I have also gained valuable information and created lasting friendships.

Are you a proud chapter leader in Region 7? Introduce yourself to Tim in the comments or send him an email.
