Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Like so many others in payroll, my career was a happy accident. While in high school I landed a job doing data entry, where I developed MS Office skills, and earned cash to go party (oh the good old days, before bills). It was at this job I befriended the person who changed my life. My friend had a daughter who was looking for a payroll clerk. My young age and lack of work suits was a big deterrent, but my friend convinced her daughter I was the right fit. Later, I became good friends with the daughter, my boss, and the person who helped me start my career.
How long have you been involved with PAYO and Local Chapters?
Shortly after I joined PAYO, I learned about local chapters. The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (SFBAC) was easy to find as it is very active in the payroll community. My chapter membership started in 2009, and they quickly convinced me to serve on the board in many positions, which honed my speaking and presentation skills. Most importantly, I made great friends and broadened my network.
What goal would you like to achieve as a Regional Advisor?
As Regional Advisor, I am most excited to learn about other chapters across the country, especially about different cultures, practices, and networks.
What is the best advice you would like to give to the chapters in your region?
The best advice I could give is to please be generous with feedback. As a new Regional Advisor, I have a lot to learn and the best way to ensure I’m doing what the chapters need is by receiving your feedback.
How do you use social media to help promote and market the chapters in your region?
My favorite platform for professional networking is LinkedIn. The platform has developed many tools to network and educate groups of people without having to invest in a suite of expense resources. Region 8 chapter leaders can join our LinkedIn group for Region 8 using this link here.
How do you plan to interact with chapters in your region?
Connecting with the chapters can be done is many ways, especially since many of us will be connecting from different locations. I am happy to meet the needs of each of the chapters by being flexible on the tools used to interact. Email, text, call, chats, and social platforms are many options, and I’m open to exploring more.
