The December 2017 meeting of the Dallas Chapter (DAPA) was quite the cause for celebration! It was the culmination of a year-long initiative adopted by the chapter to assist local business, Williams Chicken, give back to the Dallas community.
Verna Bryant, CPP, and Doris Williams, FPC, are both employees at Williams Chicken and have been active in the Dallas Chapter for over 10 years. Verna has served as the chapter’s Assistant Education Director, and Doris has assisted with the Dallas Education program. Through these two DAPA members, Williams Chicken has given our chapter time, support, and enormous encouragement. It has been a valuable partner of DAPA for many years.
DAPA Public Relations Director Susan Warren, CPP, and Mr. Hiawatha Williams, founder, and CEO of Williams Fried Chicken, Inc.
This particular story starts back in December of 2016, when I heard a late night local news report about the wonderful work that Williams Chicken was doing in the local community with their ‘Change For A Change’ program. Simply by placing boxes in their popular restaurants all year long and collecting customers’ spare change, Williams Chicken was able to provide winter coats, hats, and mittens for hundreds of local kids in need.
After hearing this story, I immediately proposed to the Dallas Board that our Chapter adopt Williams Chicken ‘Change For A Change’ as one of our 2017 Community Outreach initiatives. The Board was all in! At each luncheon meeting in 2017, every table sported a silver bucket where members were encouraged to donate their spare change. What a marvelous sound it was when those coins were dropped in the bucket each month!
After collecting spare change at ten monthly meetings, the chapter was proud to present representatives from Williams Chicken with a check for $500 at our December 2017 meeting! We were honored to have nine guests from Williams Chicken with us, including our own Verna Bryant and Doris Williams, as well as Williams Chicken founder, Mr. Hiawatha Williams.
Our chapter was privileged to be a part of this worthy cause with such an honorable partner who is so admired and respected in the Dallas community.
