The next few months, we will be highlighting APA chapters celebrating major milestones this year. Let's learn more about the Greater Cleveland Chapter and get to know its President Georgette Mucci, FPC.
Tell us about your chapter (When did you launch, how many members do you have)
Our chapter launched in 1982, this being our 40th year. Currently, we have 49 active members. Once we resume in-person meetings, many of our former members will come back. We are an enthusiastic organization of payroll professionals, who, for the most part, meet bimonthly. Currently, we are virtual. We promote local community service efforts, network with peers, and educate through seminars, bringing in area professionals to speak for our meetings. We are proud to have the distinction of the first local chapter of the APA and continue to celebrate over 40 years of Payroll Leadership.
What do you feel are your secrets to success? (What has your chapter done to remain affiliated for 40 years, how do you market your chapter)
We market our chapter by spreading the word, offering initial first meeting free with member, encourage potential members to give us a try.
Our chapter promotes community relations by supporting a variety of non-profit organizations such as The City Mission, Ronal McDonald House and Toys for Tots.
Tell us about yourself (how long have you been in payroll, where are you from, how long have you been Chapter President, any other fun facts)
I have been in payroll for over 15 years and an active member for over 10 years. I began serving on the board as a Government Liaison, moving to Vice-President and then President. My term will end as acting President at the end of this year and then for two years will assist and guide the incoming President as needed.
I was born in Boston, MA but lived in Cleveland area most of my life. I married in Beirut Lebanon, lived there for 8 years, and moved back to the Cleveland area in 1989. I have two grown children and two granddaughters. My hobbies are fishing, traveling, skiing, golf, and hiking.
What about your chapter are you most proud of?
I am most proud of camaraderie and people stepping in when someone is not able to complete their tasks. I was going through a very difficult HCM implementation and time was not on my side. The Vice-President and others have stepped up to facilitate meetings when I couldn’t. I am very proud of them and humbled by their gestures.
What is your favorite part of being Chapter President?
My favorite part is getting to know new members. I enjoy watching them grow in their positions and network within our chapter.
Do you have any advice for chapters that may be struggling?
Be patient and don’t lose sight of what we are here for, to educate and assist others. Communicate the benefits of creating new and long-lasting business relationships and friendships through networking. Above all, have fun with it!
